Workgroup Class Networked Storage System with Full Fibre Channel and SATA Disks Support

The S2A3000 is the Workgroup version of the Enterprise-Class Silicon Storage Appliance S2A8000, designed to make it easy for the scientific, supercomputing and broadcast communities to deploy and scale Fibre Channel storage area network infrastructures.

Including directRAID, a patent protected Parallel Access Architecture, Centralized Caching, and Solid-State Disk functionality, the S2A3000 provides the lowest Total Cost of Ownership for any performance driven storage environment.

Generic RAID storage devices have been designed for the transactional markets and fall short when installed in high-throughput distributed computing, the S2A3000 has been specifically designed and engineered to serve the stringent throughput, scalability and latency requirements of HPC, Rich Media and Oil and Gas markets.

Simplicity drives down the Total Cost of Ownership. The TCO of any computing infrastructure is directly affected by the quantity of devices and the associated management resources needed to perform the job - and keep it all up and running. Silicon Storage Appliances’ incredible performance, scalability and manageability allow you to do more with fewer components, resulting in higher reliability, less system’s administration, and far greater ease-of-use. In fact, it is not unusual for a single systems administrator to manage from a few Terabytes to well over a hundred Terabytes using Silicon Storage Appliances.

Performance - The S2A3000 delivers in real-life applications 600 to 700MB/s sustained throughput, in both Reads and even more impressively, Writes. While other storage devices claim theoretical throughput numbers, only the Silicon Storage Appliance family truly delivers close to port saturation throughput 24x7 in actual data intensive application environments using Fibre Channel Disks. In addition, the S2A3000’s advanced drive management techniques provides the fastest and most scalable Serial ATA (SATA) disks storage implementations available for Workgroups.

Scalability - The S2A3000’s capability to scale and manage from a handful to over 200 disk drives, or over 30TB capacity using 146GB disk drive, and close to 60TB using SATA disks, provides a great platform for Storage Consolidation and Virtualization. Adding capacity is achieved online without disruption just by adding disks and disks enclosures when required.

Manageability - The Silicon Storage Appliances’ built-in virtualization, any to any data-access architecture, performance monitoring and optimization, load balancing, and intuitive interface capabilities make the Appliances truly easy to deploy, re-configure, monitor and troubleshoot.

Fault Tolerance - On top of the usual reliability features you have come to expect (RAID protection, controller failover, hot swappable drives, power supplies and fans), the S2A3000 can also protect your content with RAIDed cache, disk chassis redundancy without downtime or loss of access, and “on-the-fly” Parity checking for both Writes AND Reads. (Very helpful with SATA disks to limit disk corruption, and avoid drive failures events exhibited by other SATA Raid devices.)
