Performance - Providing up to 65% increase in bandwidth over the S2A8000 solution, the DataDirect S2A8500 block level controller delivers up to 1.5 GBytes/sec of raw sustained throughput with Fibre Channel or SATA disks. The S2A8500’s unparalleled throughput level is delivered with no performance penalty in degraded mode operation.
Scalability - Providing a solution that can answer tomorrow’s capacity and performance needs today, the S2A8500 provides the capability to manage from a handful to over 1,000 Fibre Channel or SATA disks and scale from tens of Terabytes at 1.5 GBytes/sec bandwidth with a single appliance to Petabytes and tens of GB/sec of aggregate throughput in a SwiftCluster configuration.
Reliability and Availability - The Silicon Storage Appliance technology has proven its robustness and reliability in many of the most demanding computing environments worldwide. Due to its parallel, fully pipelined and redundant architecture the DataDirect S2A8500 performance is unaffected under normal failure conditions - reads or writes. Even a catastrophic disk chassis failure, cache failure, or full drive loop failure will have very little to no effect on performance. In addition, the extra broad back-end bandwidth of the S2A8500 allows for drive rebuilds with little or no performance impact and a unique "on-the-fly" parity checking for both reads and writes increases data integrity throughout the system - a significant feature for SATA storage.
Flexibility and Manageability - With exceptionally high system resiliency and high MTBF characteristics the S2A8500 allows scaling of commoditized storage with high performance Fibre Channel disks and cost effective SATA storage. Consolidating both FC and SATA drives and providing built-in point-in-time mirroring capabilities, virtualization, any-to-any data-access architecture, load balancing, and extensive performance monitoring and optimization, the Silicon Storage Appliance simplifies management and reduces cost.
