    Broadcast Graphics » Vizrt - Viz|Trio

Viz|Trio is a cost-effective, yet powerful, real-time 2D/3D character generator. In addition to the basic CG features it offers a feature-rich 3D design system for creation of true 3D graphics and animations. Viz|Trio offers a wide range of attractive features such as the Look-Ahead Transition Logic™, multiple clients controlling one output channel and integration to Non-Linear Editing systems.

HD/SD Output

Viz|Trio can deliver both High and Standard definition formats. Being built upon the Viz|Engine real-time output machine Viz|Trio as a software automatically supports SD and HD. The core technology in Viz|Engine is entirely resolution independent, hence adaptation to new output standards is only a hardware issue.

The Look-Ahead Transition Logic is unique for Vizrt. It will make sure that for any new page taken to air the system will automatically perform optimal transitions between existing and new graphic elements. Graphics elements meant to be on the screen at the same time are put in different logical layers. The concept of independent layers enables you to put on air any combination of graphics and control them independently of each other.

Look-Ahead Transition Logic™ - Reduce the number of pages

If you for instance have a Live Bug, a Lower Third and a Side Panel, they can be designed to reside in different layers. You can then take your Live Bug, Lower third or Side panel on and off without having to worry about whether the other two elements are on or off. Without this feature you would pages to be able to show all possible combinations. With have needed 2 Transition Logic you only need 3.

Automatic transitions when variants of your Lower Third are loaded

If you have variants of your Lower Third, for instance one for a single text line, one for two text lines, and one for three text lines, the layer can be designed with transitions which change the Lower Third backplate to make it fit the number of text lines. If you for instance have a single line Lower Third on-air and take on a three lines Lower Third, the Lower Third layer will automatically seamlessly transition into a bigger version of the Lower Third backplate to fit the three lines text page. The workflow for a non-transition system would have been to use two channels and perform a cross fade or to do a crude cut.

Make layers interact to ensure correct composition of all elements

It is also possible to make layers affect each other. If the Side Panel is on-air and you go from the one line Lower Third to the three line variant, it might be the case that the Side Panel needs to be moved or scaled to make room for the bigger lower third backplate. This logic can also easily be designed into the layer logic. Without this possibility you would have to design the Side Panel with a static size that would fit the biggest version of the Lower third. This would again result in an open space between the Lower Third and the Side Panel with the smaller Lower Third variant.

The Vizrt NLE plug-in

With the Vizrt NLE plug-in, graphics templates from a Viz|Trio system can be used within the NLE system without any modification. A graphic is added to the NLE timeline by dragging the Vizrt NLE plug-in into the timeline at the point where the graphic should start its animation. The NLE user will then select a graphics template to use. The template is displayed in a window which allows the user to change the content or modify the graphic. All the standard Viz|Trio controls and features which allow the user to change text, images, 3D objects, scaling, positioning and so on, are made available within the NLE system. The plug-in window includes a real-time rendered preview of the graphic, including full length animation. After clicking OK button in the plug-in window, the graphic will be rendered into the timeline.

A unique feature is the support for variable length animations. The user can change the duration of a graphic in the NLE timeline. If it is an animation without any stop-points, the animation speed will be affected by the duration change. An example would be a credit list, which will run faster if it gets a smaller duration. If it is an animation which includes a stop-point, like a Lower Third animating in, stays in (with looping background animations), then animates out – the Vizrt NLE plug-in system will change the duration of the paused part of the animation only, keeping the speed of the in and out animations as they were designed.

Currently supported NLE systems are the Pinnacle Liquid series and the Avid systems which support Avid Visual eXtensions (AVX) plug-ins.

Multiple Clients on one output channel

Multiple Viz|Trio clients can prepare graphics simultaneously, without tying up the on-air graphics channel during the preparation process. Further, during playout, multiple clients can operate one output channel. Different operators can be assigned specific responsibilities for individual graphics components, for instance during election broadcasts and sport live events.

Macros

With Viz|Trio’s macro language you can script many of the operations that you normally do in the graphical user interface. Macros allow you to:

  • Assign global or show specific functions to shortcut keys.
  • Insert Viz|Trio functions into script logic for scripts executed within Viz|Trio.
  • Control Viz|Trio externally through Viz|Trio’s socket connection.

The macros combined with Viz|Trio’s socket connection enable you to create macros/scripts in other applications, such as MS Word and Excel, and send the commands to Viz|Trio that way. Shortcut macros can be either global or show specific.

VB Scripting

In Viz|Trio VB scripts can be attached to any template. This enables you to implement your own functionality to a template. Typical applications for scripting can be import of data from external sources, guidance to users, etc. If a template contains a script, all pages based on this template will inherit the script.

Vizrt product suite

Vizrt’s character generator can be entirely standalone, or can be the starting point for any TV station or professional video facility that wants to begin building a fully integrated and efficient core graphics system, which will benefit every aspect of its programming and operations.

Standard rack mountable hardware

The system contains no proprietary hardware but works with standard, rack mountable PC hardware for quick and easy updates. It is compact and simple to install, making it ideal for remote broadcast use.
